I had a bunch of stories ready to link to today but then my browser crashed. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I'm going on vacation starting tomorrow. Not as a reaction to my browser crashing-- this has been in the works for a while. My brother is getting married and then I'm off to Hawaii. I shall return to this blog on Monday, June 16. Don't worry, I will miss you too!
To tide you over, I will offer you some links to some notable records that will hit the streets while I am gone. Pre-order to your brains out, y'all! Peace out, dawgz. Audi 5000, G!

- Misdials May Have Cost Clay 'Idol' Title
Cinergy Communications, an Evansville, Ind. a telecommunications company, handled more than 240,000 misdialed calls during the three-hour voting period for "American Idol" last week. They took more than 169,000 calls for Clay and 72,000 for Ruben. Just 130,000 votes separated Clay and Ruben out of 24 million votes cast. Now this is a scandal!
Well, wait, if you look at the math, it isn't. If Clay had gotten the misdialed votes, he would've led by 39,000 votes. But the 72,000 misdialed Ruben votes puts the big man back on top.
- Fans 'Thankful' for Bonus Software on Clarkson CD
You know how ocassionally you'll buy a CD that comes with software included that conencts you back to the record label so you can watch videos or get new content? Ever wonder how many people actually take advantage of that stuff? According to the above linked article, 25% of the folks who bought Kelly Clarkston's Thankful have. It doesn't, however, say if that's more, less or on traget for what they were expecting.
- Atlantic Offering Exclusive Jewel Tracks
If you buy Jewel's 0304 in its first week of release, you'll find inside a URL and a pin number where you can go to download two additional tracks. No word yet on what format those tracks will be in. Pre-order Jewel's 0304 by clicking here or wait until it hits your neigborhood wrecka stow on June 3, 2003.
- Turkey Wins Its First Eurovision Title
Without this cheesy European song competition, we wouldn't have ABBA. Just a little historical perspective. Anyway, bug ups to Turkey for taking this years title. Sour Grapes Award to the U.K., who blames their last place finish, in part, the world still being bitter about their partcipation in the war with Iraq.
- Microsoft prepares reply to iTunes
No surprise there.
- Contribute to the Media Monopoly ad campaign
So, you've written to the F.C.C. to let them know what you think about the relaxing of media consolidation rules. You've contacted your representatives. Now what? Donate some scrilla to MoveOn.Org's Media Monopoly Ad Campaign to help get the word out that what's gonna come down on June 2 is gonna stink to high heaven. The ad demonizes Rupert Murdoch of News Corp., but they should really use this campaign to point out how only four or five corporations control like 90% of our media. But I'll take what I can get.
- Sinatra, Hazlewood Walk On
Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood have teamed up for an album of new material, which has yet to be titled and doesn't have a release date. Sinatra is sixty-two and Hazlewood is seventy-three-- if they can recapture the sexual heat of their recordings from many many moons ago-- Idon't think I wanna know about it.
- Band gives Baghdad a pounding: Hard-core rockers from Iraq look for a ticket out
Interesting article about A. Crassicauda, allegedly "Baghdad's sole heavy metal group." Of course, they're looking for a deal. We should airlift episodes of "Behind The Music" so they know what they're in for.
- Documentary About the Making of Trouble No More (via The Rub)
John Mellencamp allowed 15 Indiana University telecommunications students to document the making of his new album, entitled Trouble No More. The project resulted in "Trouble No More: The Making of a John Mellencamp Album," which will air on WTIU in Indiana June 7 at 9pm and June 8 at 4:30pm. Look for it on your local PBS station soon. Trouble No More is due in stores on June 3, or you can pre-order by clicking on the album title.
