  • Vivendi-GE to Create Entertainment Giant

    Dear GE/NBC/Universal,

If there's anyway you could possibly not ruin Trio and News World International, I would really appericate it. For example, don't go dumping NBC left-overs onto Trio while turning NWI into a 24-hr. Dateline NBC network. I know it will be tempting, but it would really suck if you did it.

    Thanks,

    Randy Reiss

    Monday, October 06, 2003

I'm still neck deep in a project, but I'm making some time to clear out some links that I've had laying around for a while:

    • A Tribe Called Quest To Drop New Album In Winter 2004
Can I kick it? Yes, you can! I pray that's it good. It has to be good. Hip-hop needs a good ATCQ album right about now.

    • Damien Rice Wins 2003 Shortlist Music Prize
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were robbed.

    • Wilco, Dashboard Take It To The 'Bridge'
This year's Bridge School Concert performers:
      Neil Young
      Pearl Jam
      Wilco
      Dashboard Confessional
      Counting Crows
      Willie Nelson
      Incubus
      Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Oct. 25 @ Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, California. The performers appear in a randomly selected order, though Neil Young traditionally kicks things off with a song or two.

    • Linkin Park Gets OK for Malaysia Concert
But they can't wear shorts, scream or jump around. Sound a lot like what happens at The Bridge School Concert.

    • Dungeon Family Tree
A very good oral history of OutKast, Goodie Moband the Dungeon Family production crew. Criminally, there is no mention at all of Witchdoctor.

    • A Guide To Music Changes In "WKRP IN CINCINNATI
The people who syndicate "WKRP In Cincinnati" are to cheap to/can't afford to use the pop songs used in the background when the shows were originally broadcast, so all the music has been replaced. The above linked page tracks all the changes.

    • Inside Whitney’s world
Dateline NBC gets the skinny on what exactly is wrong with Mizz Houston. Even without an exclusive interview, the get more details than Diane Sawyer's infamous "show me the recipts" interview with Whitney. Apparently, Courtney Love missed the broadcast.

    • Amazing Prince Paul Interview
Long, but very worth reading. Buried way down in the the second part of the interview-- he and De La Soul are kicking around the idea of doing an album together again. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease make it so!

    • Out of the aeroplane into the sea (Salon subscription or day pass required.
Interesting Salon piece about how Neutral Milk Hotel released In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in 1998 and then left the hipsters hanging by never releasing a follow-up album. Let me just say this, as someone who heard that album twenty zillion times while I was on staff at SonicNet, I gotta say I don't miss 'em much.

    • Funkenstein's Monster (Salon subscription or day pass required.
Could and an artist like George Clinton and P-Funk emerge from today's music industry of tightly controlled playlists, beanc-ounters as A&R men and and music that's market researched down to the chord change? Probably not, and that's what really sucks for our culture.

    • The Myth of Remastering
Interesting articlle which points out that remastred CDs are not always all they are cracked up to be.

    • The R.I.A.A. Prank
Pretty funny look at what happens if you cal The R.I.A.A. or the record labels and try to pay them for songs you illegally downloaded.
