  I was never that big a fan, but his music has meant a lot to folks whose opinions I respect so I'll send a shout-out to them and offer my condolences. And Robert Duffy of donewaiting.com IM-ed me a good point yesterday-- between Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon, Wesley Willis and Elliott Smith it's been a rough year for the mortality of singer/songwriters.
