Sorry for the lack of updates, y'all. I've been busy working behind the scenes, trying to get
Sony Connect off the ground. I have a quick minute of breathing room, so here are the links I collected for you while I was away from this blog:
- R.I.P. Dave Blood of The Dead Milkmen
Very sad. He killed himself. His sister posts on the above linked site that he was never happier than when The Dead Milkmen were an active enterprise.
The Dead Milkmen were a big part of my teenaged musical tastes. In fact, it feel like it is time to list A Few Important Albums To My Teen-Aged Self
-The Dead Milkmen, Big Lizard In My Backyard and Eat Your Paisley and Bucky Fellini
-Violent Femmes, Violent Femmes
-The Smiths, Louder Than Bombs
-Prince, Sign O' The Times
-Crowded House, Temple of Low Men
-Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense
I could go on, but that's enough for now.
- R.I.P. J.J. Jackson, one of MTV's First VJs
- Jay-Z Remix Madness
-Grey Album Producer Danger Mouse Explains How He Did It
-The Jay-Z Construction Set All the tools to make your own re-mix!
-The Jay-Z Construction Set Blog tracks all the mixes they know of.
-The Purple and Gold Album
-Jay-Z vs. Weezer
-Jay-Z vs. Metallica
-Bannedmusic.org
- Nas Looks Back To 'Illmatic' With Reissue, DVD
Both due on March 30, with the Illmatic re-issue also including four re-mixes and two new tracks. Re-mixes I can understand, but there's no excuse for marring the memory of Illmatic with two new tracks. Pre-order the re-issue by clicking here.
- Morrissey Sings From The 'Heart' On New Album
Depressed teenagers of the 80s unite! Uncle Moz is back up in that azz, you sukkas! You Are The Quarry hits stores on May 18 (click that link for hot pre-order action). Moz will also be touring, including 5 nights at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.
- D-12 Sees The 'World' With Dre, Kanye West
Have you heard "My Band" yet? Worst. Eminem. Chorus. Ever. D-12's Devil's Night had like 4 good songs on it, if you feel like that's a good ratio you can pre-order D-12 World here> It hist stores on April 27.
- Diary: Allan Light
An interesting week's worth of journal entries from Allan Light, new EIC of Tracks magazine and former big wig at Vibe and Spin. Well worth taking the time to read, especially if you're into music journalism.
- The MTV 120 Minutes Playlist Archive
Lots of good memories there.
- Roundtable: Children’s Music
I know I've linked to other stories about children giving their opinions about hipster rock music played for them by their teachers. Now the tables turn: hipsters give their opinions about children's music.
- A Definitve Look At The Music In "Sixteen Candles"
The resources available on the Internet never fail to amaze me. The above linked page tracks all the changes to the music in "Sixteen Candles"-- changes were made between the original release, tv broadcast, video release and DVD release.
